Utility SurveysMany modern services such as Gas, Water and Sewage now use plastic piping. These are not visible to the simple hand held cable and pipe tracing equipment normally used on site. Whilst these will detect metal cables and pipes, nowadays this is just not enough. Many modern communications cables are fibre optic and non metallic. There is also the problem posed by older pottery pipes and drains. There is often no documentation or accurate drawings showing the location of such services. Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) is able to penetrate concrete and tarmac surfaces allowing imaging of sub surface features without digging. This enables such pre-existent services to be added to site drawings prior to construction work starting. This is invaluable in helping to prevent damage. |
