Damage LocationGround Penetrating Radar (GPR) is invaluable in its ability to locate damage to structures. It is able to detect voids caused by the collapse of old tunnels and mine workings. It is also able to detect subsidence caused by leaking water mains and other pipelines, and is indeed often able to pinpoint the location leaking pipes where water or other fluid has washed away areas of soil. The collapsed road on the left was caused by a leaking water main! GPR could have shown the location of this damage long before it reached this stage. |
